SKU & inventory codes
Updated
SKUs (stock-keeping units) are short codes you assign to products and variants. They make items easy to find, match, and track across your dashboard. This is an optional feature you turn on when you need it.
Steps
- Go to Advanced in the sidebar and turn on SKU / Inventory Codes.
- For a product without variants, open the product, go to the Advanced tab, and enter a code in the SKU field.
- For a product with variants, open the Variants tab — a SKU column appears there, so you can give each variant its own code.
- Save the product. Each SKU must be unique within your store; codes are compared case-insensitively, so
ABC-1andabc-1count as the same code. - To find an item later, use the product search box — it matches by name, SKU, or description.
Where SKUs appear
- On the order detail page, each item shows its SKU.
- In your order exports (CSV/Excel), SKUs are included alongside the items.
- On printed order labels, the SKU is shown next to the item.
- When you bulk import products, the sheet accepts a
skucolumn (product-level) and avariant_skucolumn (per variant).
Note: SKUs are for your own inventory tracking. They aren’t required, and they aren’t shown to shoppers at checkout.
