Delivery settings option explanations

How your delivery charge is calculated, what customers enter at checkout, and which courier the parcel goes to — it is all controlled from one page. This guide explains every option on the Delivery Settings page, one by one.

Where to find the settings

Open Delivery Settings from the sidebar. The page has three tabs:

  • Zone Settings — delivery charge mode, free delivery mode, delivery notes and your list of zones.
  • Advanced — detailed address capture at checkout and courier dispatch review.
  • Courier — connect your Steadfast, Pathao and Carrybee accounts.

Note: The Zone Settings and Advanced tabs are saved together — clicking Save Settings on either tab saves the changes from both. The Courier tab has its own separate save button.

1. Delivery charge mode

This is the most important choice on the page, because it decides which fields appear on the zone form. There are three options:

ModeHow the charge is calculatedFields shown on the zone form
Flat rateOne fixed charge per zone, regardless of weightDelivery Charge, Free Delivery Threshold
By weight (per kg)The zone’s per-kg rate × the order’s total weightRate per kg
CombinedWeighted items charged per kg, plus one flat fee for standard itemsRate per kg, Flat fee for standard items, Standard delivery free over

Flat rate

The simplest and most common mode, and the default for a new store.

  • Whichever zone the customer picks at checkout, that zone’s Delivery Charge is added to the order.
  • The charge is added once per order, no matter how many items are in the cart.
  • When the order subtotal reaches the zone’s Free Delivery Threshold, the charge automatically drops to zero.

Best for clothing, gadgets, cosmetics — anything where parcels weigh roughly the same.

By weight (per kg)

The charge is calculated from the whole order’s weight: Rate per kg × total kilograms.

  • The weight comes from the product itself — Products → edit a product → Delivery Weight → Weight per unit.
  • Every active zone must have a Rate per kg greater than 0, or the zone will not save.
  • Free-delivery thresholds do not apply in this mode — a weight-based charge is never waived, which is why the flat charge and threshold fields are hidden on the zone form.
  • A product with no weight set counts as 0 kg, so it adds no delivery charge at all. Set a weight on every product before switching to this mode.

Best for rice, lentils, spices, loose food — anything sold by the kilo.

Combined

Use this when the same store sells some items by weight (rice, for example) and others by the piece (a shirt).

  • Which items are charged by weight is decided by the Charged by delivery weight? switch on the product (Products → edit a product → Delivery Weight). With the switch off, the product counts as a standard item.
  • Charge = (total kg of weighted items × Rate per kg) + (one Flat fee for standard items, whenever the cart contains at least one standard item).
  • The Standard delivery free over threshold is compared against the subtotal of the standard items only — the price of weighted items is not counted towards it, and the per-kg part is never waived.

Note: Changing the mode changes which fields the zone form shows, but delivery charges on existing orders stay exactly as they were. After switching modes, open each active zone once and fill in the new fields.

Worked examples

Flat rate — the “Inside Dhaka” zone has a charge of ৳60 and a free-delivery threshold of ৳1,000:

  • An order of ৳800 → delivery ৳60
  • An order of ৳1,200 → delivery ৳0

By weight — the zone’s rate is ৳30 per kg and the customer orders 5 kg of rice:

  • Delivery = 5 × 30 = ৳150 (the charge stays the same however large the order value is)

Combined — the zone has a rate of ৳30 per kg, a ৳60 flat fee for standard items, and standard delivery free over ৳1,000. The cart holds 5 kg of rice (weighted) and a ৳1,200 shirt (standard):

  • Weight part: 5 × 30 = ৳150
  • Standard part: the shirt’s subtotal of ৳1,200 clears the ৳1,000 threshold → the ৳60 is waived, so ৳0
  • Total delivery charge: ৳150

The charge the customer sees at checkout and the charge saved on the order are calculated by the same rule on the server, so the two can never disagree.

2. Free Delivery Mode

A switch. It applies when your store has no active delivery zones — customers can then check out with a ৳0 delivery charge without picking a zone.

  • On, no zones → checkout shows delivery as “Free” and the order goes through.
  • Off, no zones → checkout is blocked and customers cannot order. Keep this switch on until you have created your zones.
  • Zones exist → on or off, the customer must pick a zone and that zone’s charge applies.

So there are two ways to give free delivery across the whole store: keep this switch on with no zones set up, or set every zone’s Delivery Charge to 0. To give free delivery only on larger orders, use a zone’s Free Delivery Threshold instead.

3. Delivery Notes

Controls whether customers can add delivery instructions at checkout — a landmark, a floor number, a preferred delivery time. Three options:

  • Disabled — no note field is shown.
  • Optional — the field is shown and customers may fill it in. This is the default.
  • Required — customers must write something before they can place the order.

Whatever the customer writes appears on the order detail page, so it is there when you pack the parcel or hand it to a courier.

4. The delivery zone list

Below the settings is the list of your zones. Use Add Zone to create one. Each zone has:

  • Zone Name — this is what customers see at checkout, such as “Inside Dhaka” or “Outside Dhaka”.
  • Delivery Charge / Rate per kg — which one appears depends on your delivery charge mode.
  • Free Delivery Threshold — the charge is waived once an order reaches this amount. Leave it empty if there is no threshold.
  • StatusActive shows the zone at checkout, Hidden keeps it off checkout.
  • Default Zone — this zone is pre-selected at checkout. Only one zone can be the default.

The up and down arrows beside each row reorder the zones, and that is the order customers see at checkout. Deleting a zone does not change the delivery charge on existing orders.

For step-by-step instructions, see set up delivery zones & charges.

The Advanced tab

Two options that make sending orders to a courier easier.

Ask detailed address at checkout

When this is on, checkout adds City and Zone selectors alongside the address, and the address field asks for house and road details. The customer must pick both a city and a zone, so every order carries a precise delivery area and dispatching to a courier becomes a single click.

Carrybee must be enabled on the Courier tab for this information to be used at dispatch. If it is not set up yet, a warning appears under the switch.

Confirm before sending to courier

On by default. With it on, a review window appears before an order is sent to the courier so you can check the detected delivery area first. Turning it off skips the review and creates the shipment in one click — faster when you ship a lot of orders, but you lose the chance to catch a wrong area.

The Courier tab

Connect Steadfast, Pathao and Carrybee here. Each courier has its own switch and credential fields, and only one form is expanded at a time. You can connect one, two or all three — enter the details and click Save Settings.

For where to find each courier’s credentials, see connect Steadfast & Pathao.

In the mobile app

The merchant app can also change the delivery charge mode, the zone list and both Advanced options from More → Delivery Zones. Free Delivery Mode and Delivery Notes are currently available only in the web dashboard.

Tips

  • Choose the delivery charge mode first and create zones afterwards — the zone form will then show the right fields and you avoid doing the work twice.
  • Before switching to a weight-based or combined mode, set a Weight per unit on every product, otherwise items without a weight will ship for free.
  • After changing any setting, place a test order on your own storefront and check the charge at checkout.
  • Start with two zones, inside and outside Dhaka. You can always add district- or area-level zones later.
